The knee injury that changed the driver
A basketball injury interrupted more than a season. It interrupted a future Jimmy had imagined for years.
On March 9, 1997, at Junior Nationals during his senior year of high school, Jimmy injured his right knee. He completely tore his ACL and also tore his MCL, meniscus, and patellar tendon. It ended his competitive basketball career at a time when basketball had been his dream for much of his life.
His account connects the physical injury with emotional damage and a disruption to identity and purpose. That makes it a Personal OS story as much as a movement story.
The question this opens is broader than returning to a sport: when a familiar path closes, how do you reconnect with purpose and work with the body and circumstances you have?
About this account: Jimmy confirmed the date, right knee, complete ACL tear, and tears to the MCL, meniscus, and patellar tendon.
